The Indian company Keshawin Bio-polymers, based in Mumbai, will begin manufacturing biodegradable plastics from Merseburg-based Exipnos GmbH under license starting in January 2024. The cooperation, agreed upon in September 2023, is a further result of the partnership established in 2020 between the All India Plastics Manufacturers’ Association (AIPMA) and POLYKUM, the Central German Association for Polymer Development and Plastics Technology, from which science and research in the region also benefit.
Company head Keshawi Mehta (pictured left), who had come to the Central German Chemical Region with her father, AIPMA Chairman Arvind Mehta, for the contract signing, was proud to announce that the bio-based and biodegradable plastics from Merseburg will now be produced exclusively for the Indian market. ” BioCelain® is a growing family of non-fossil, biodegradable materials for a wide variety of applications, from injection molding to blow molding!”
In previous lectures at the Fraunhofer IMWS, she and her father gave students from Martin Luther University and Merseburg University of Applied Sciences insights into the Indian plastics market. Demand has increased more than twentyfold since 1990. While bioplastics currently make up only a very small portion of this market, “the demand for biopolymers in India is expected to triple by 2027 alone,” the entrepreneur explained. “With BioCelain®, we want to make a significant contribution to this growth!”
